SPARROW GO BOOM!
The Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 (or III, if that’s important to you) Multiplayer Beta started today for the PS4. Actually it was supposed to start tomorrow, but a lot of the beta codes came out early, and we got our hands on a few of them. This beta test runs for about a week (I believe) with the Xbox One version coming out the following Wednesday, August 26th.
So what’s the game like you ask? Here is a quick “First impression” of the game so far and we’ll get a gameplay video up on the site soon for you to see for yourself. Keep in mind, this is a Beta, so a lot can change in the final game, but seeing as though the game is set to release in a couple of months, it’s a safe bet that most of what you see will make it into the final game….hopefully none of the glitches make it. ON WITH THE PREVIEW!!
Off the bat, this is a very different game from Advanced Warfare. VERY different. Sure they do have “exo suits” type of abilities…a lot of specialists to choose from, each offering a different style of play. I went for the “Outrider” specialist right away, mostly because she uses a kickass bow and arrow called the Sparrow. Once you hit someone with a bow, they go boom, along with anyone else around. The sparrow isn’t your primary weapon though, think of it as a special power or weapon that needs to be charged before you can use it. Before that though, it’s basic COD Class system guns. We’ll dive into more details when the actual game does come out.
Shooting even feels better in this game, if any of you remember playing Black Ops 2, I recall the game actually having a really solid feel to when you hit someone and when you fire your gun. It just felt right, and you can hear every bullet hit the person you are aiming at…it’s very satisfying. My first go at the game proved to be very…interesting. I died a lot. Like a LOT, so it does take some getting used to. You no longer have the boost from Advanced Warfare, so I found myself jumping and TRYING to boost a lot, as it was a pretty standard way to get around. What it lacks in a boost, it makes up for in wall running. I haven’t played the game and leveled up enough to know if there is a “boost” perk somewhere, so hopefully that shows up. The wall running however, is almost like Titanfall….scratch that, it IS EXACTLY like Titanfall, except you don’t jump as high. That’s a good thing, as it’s one of my favorite mechanics of Titanfall’s gameplay.
Treyarch has definitely changed things for the better, and I definitely can’t wait to play more. Getting used to the no boost was annoying, and i’ve already experienced a few glitches here and there (the background all but disappeared at one point). I tell you though, there’s just something so satisfying about hitting someone with those arrows that explode! I mean yes, they make the bad guys go boom into a bloody gib filled mess, but there’s also the satisfaction that you were able to destroy someone without using a semi-automatic. I’ve managed to get at least 5-6 sparrow kills in two games, so that’s fun.
We’ll bring you more soon once we get our feet wetter. Stay tuned!
