TO PLUTO AND BEYOND!!

The world has been a buzz this week as NASA’s New Horizons space probe finally reached Pluto after a nine-year journey to the far reaches of our galaxy.

Getting the New Horizons probe to Pluto is an amazing accomplishment, and what is even more astonishing is that the same CPU in the New Horizons probe is the same CPU that powered the original PlayStation!

The same processor that powered PaRappa the Rapper has taken a space probe to Pluto and sent back amazing pictures of the planet’s surface.

NASA used the PlayStation’s MIPS R3000 CPU because it was reliable hardware that has been “tried-and-tested”, preferable to newer, more unpredictable technology.

The CPU has helped the probe travel over 4.8 billion kilometres and is being used to, fire thrusters, monitor sensors and transmit data.

So next time any one bugs you about gaming just let them know you work for NASA and its top secret work, LOL!!
